MUSIC ROW IMMERSION!
PUTTING YOU ON THE “INSIDE” OF MUSIC ROW

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We will only be allowing FIVE participants per quarter. Mainly because we do NOT want to overload our music row executive friends and established songwriters. From the time this announcement goes out, these will fill up SUPER FAST, so even if you don’t know when you might be coming to town, you can go ahead and sign up to ensure you are able to participate this year. Once you sign up, you have until the end of the 2011 to participate. Once you are ready to make the trip, just give us a call and we will get everything set up for you.

OVERVIEW:
The Music Row Immersion program is a unique, three-day experience where YOU will be taken behind the scenes and into the trenches of music row and see how it all runs from the INSIDE! This is NOT a group event. This is all ONE-ON-ONE. Just like our music row mentoring program, this can be scheduled for anytime you want to come to Nashville and participate.

Day 1 – Shadow a Music Row Executive:
You will come to Nashville Demo Studio for briefing with Jimi Whitelaw and Chip Hardy. Chip and Jimi will go over what you will be experiencing during the day, the do’s and don’ts and give you advice on how to maximize your experience to the fullest benefit. You will sign a simple confidentiality agreement. This is important because the music row executive you will be working with will be taking you inside pitch meetings, publishing companies and record labels and you will be seeing and hearing stuff that is confidential.

*Note from Jimi: The ONLY way I could get the Executives on board was to cover their butts and have you sign a confidentiality agreement. It’s literally a paragraph long and I would be more than happy to email it to you.
Oh! One more thing. We will be taking away your cellphone and computer for the day. I know that seems drastic but we are doing it so that you aren’t distracted in any way and can REALLY be IMMERSED! (Don’t worry, your Executive will be more than happy to let you use their phone if you need to make a call, etc hehe).

Once you have been briefed, the Music Row Executive of your choice will come and pick you up. From there you will be attending every meeting they have that day. You will b seeing everything they do during their workday. You will be lunching with them as well and meeting everyone they do business with and have meetings with. You will see how they pitch songs to artists, how they deal with their writers, how they conduct their day-to-day business, EVERYTHING.

Once the day is wrapped, you will spend some time with the executive and talk about what you’ve learned in the day and ask any questions, etc that you may have.

Day 2: Spend a day as an established songwriter.
On the second day of your stay, you will be spending the day with an established songwriter here in Nashville. What qualifies as an established writer? A writer that has been or is currently on a deal, creates music for a living (no day job) and writes with hit songwriters and artists regularly. These established writers will be chosen by Nashville Demo Studio. We will choose a writer that we feel best fits your own writing style and strengths (ie: you are a lyricist, they are a melody writer) as well as who we think you will get along with best. You will find out who the writer is on the second day. We think the element of surprise will be fun, PLUS we don’t want you researching them and checking out what they do prior to the day. Why? Because we want you to come to the cowrite with what YOU DO. Not you trying to emulate what they do. We feel like this will make the cowrite really fresh and fun! Don’t worry, the writer you will be matched with will be amazing and you will have a great day withthem!

Your day will begin at the studio where your new songwriting friend will come and pick you up. You will then go have coffee with them and get to know them. (Remember, established writers typically want to get to know who they are writing with and be comfortable with you, so just be yourself). After that, it’s off to the songwriters writing room where you will co-write.
The rest of the day is hanging out. Now that may seem like a big lunch bag let down, but it’s not. The way you meet people and make connections here on music row, is being cool hang. The songwriter you will be matched with will show you the ropes. They will take you around to some local hangouts, introduce you to other writers they know, people in the industry they know, etc. It will be a BLAST!

If the songwriter also happens to have another cowrite that day, you will be invited to sit in and “watch” a hit writing session go down. If this isn’t your thing, we will make sure to pair you with a songwriter that has a full open day.
